We Are One.

When spending over a month on a 28 foot boat in the middle of the ocean with only a bucket for a bathroom, it’s advisable to get to know the girls as well as you can before hand. So back in July we had our first official weekend as the One Ocean Crew (socially distanced, obvs). Camping, coffee and planning were headliners and of course we made time for a casual photo shoot and some training out on the bikes.

One of the things that I love so much about our crew is the diversity of skills. We each truly bring a different skill set, which means a range of strengths (and weaknesses) across the team that will stand us in good stead for an ocean crossing. And what I love even more about our crew is that we are unified in our goal:

To be the first female team across the finish line of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2021.

And so, strewn out on the grass in the sun chowing down on ice cream (got to get those calories in in prep for the Atlantic, right?!), we hashed out our crew values. Thankfully they rolled out fairly easily, which was great because we were ready for the bbq, but mainly great because it showed we were already on the same page.

‘We are One’: We put each other first, we have each other’s backs all the time, and we work as a highly functioning team. The only way to row across that ocean safely and fast, is to work together.

‘Give 100’: Bring it, be present in the moment, know your limits (and ask for help). In short - Just. Get. It. Done.

‘Share and inspire’: Positively promote the crew and the cause, and think about the bigger picture. This is so much more than rowing an ocean. We want to raise over £50,000 for charity and the amazing Sea Ranger Service who support youth employment and ocean regeneration. We are lucky enough to be working with a TV producer to document our journey and we would love to inspire others to be bold, push boundaries, and get behind causes you care about.

This will be a life changing challenge for us. Imagine what could be achieved when we think beyond the Atlantic.

One Crew. One Ocean. One Planet.
